At the annual assembly of the Graševina Croatica association, held at the Kalazić winery in Baranja, winemakers from Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem discussed the problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic and what to do this year with the marketing strategy of winemaking in Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem. Among the activities in the past year, winemakers welcomed the adoption of intervention measures to help the wine sector, a distillation of wine in crisis cases and wine storage, and their extension in 2021 because most winemakers had a drop in sales of 30 to 50%, and those who were focused on working with caterers they were forced to turn to other sales channels. The members of the association paid tribute to their late colleague Igor Hruškar, who spent his entire life promoting Slavonian wines.
As pointed out during the discussion, the association Graševina Croatica has an active and significant role in the wine sector in Croatia, and an even more active role in the daily work of winegrowers and winemakers will take over as the Regional Organization of Winemakers of Slavonia and the Croatian Danube region.
"We are about to complete the marketing strategy which will set the direction for the further development of winemakers, our association, and Graševina as a variety. Our main goal is the market placement of our wines, which is adequate to the quality we create in vineyards and cellars. More than 90% of the wines we produce belong to the category of quality and top quality, so it is clear what the potential is. In addition, Slavonia and the Croatian Danube region is an extremely attractive tourist area and we will be maximally involved in order to create an attractive and interesting oeno-gastronomic offer through which guests will have the opportunity to get to know our wines. A good example is Baranja, where we are currently located, which is already a recognizable and award-winning tourist destination whose integral part of the offer are Baranja winemakers and their wines, "said Josip Pavić, president of the association.
Graševina Croatica is one of the four major national winemakers' associations, and the name of the association clearly presents the main goal, which is the promotion of Graševina, the dominant variety in this area, which is the most important wine variety in Croatia in terms of vineyards and sales results. Through many years of work, the association Graševina Croatica has managed to unite the forces of winemakers who together cultivate 6,000 hectares of vineyards and who see the future of their cellars and wines from this area in synergy and branding of the wine region, with special emphasis on Graševina.
